And here comes my most used hardware wallet this year.

It’s called X-card, by Ellipal – one of the most reliable and secure cold wallet brands out there.
I’ve been using the X-card since it’s launch several months back and it’s quickly become my most-used device this year.

And the reason is simple: convenience, security and ease of use.

What Is It?

The Ellipal X Card is a credit‑card‑sized, air‑gapped cold wallet designed for people who want stronger security without changing their Web3 habits. It works as a physical approval layer for your existing web3 wallets, like MetaMask, or Trust Wallet, or other hardware devices like Ledger, Trezor, Keevo, Keystone and so on…

It’s minimal, travel‑friendly, and ideal for anyone who wants cold‑wallet protection without carrying bulky hardware. You also get a discount with my code: CRYPTOCORNER (apply at checkout).

Design & Build

The X Card is slim, durable, and built to live in your actual wallet. It has no battery, no charging port, no cables, and no screen — which means no maintenance. The internal structure is reinforced, and the exterior is scratch‑resistant, giving it the feel of a premium metal‑core payment card rather than a gadget.

Security

The X Card uses a CC EAL6+ secure element, the same class of chip used in modern bank cards and passports. Private keys are generated and stored inside the secure chip and never leave it. The card is fully air‑gapped — no WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, or USB — and all signing happens offline. Most importantly, no transaction can be approved without the physical card, making unauthorized transfers nearly impossible even if your device or browser session is compromised.

Compatibility

The Ellipal X Card uses a standard 12‑word BIP39 seed phrase, which makes it fully compatible with the broader ecosystem of wallets that follow the same standard.

This means you can migrate to the X Card from most older hardware wallets and software wallets without friction, as long as they also use BIP39. It also means you can recover your X Card wallet on another BIP39‑compatible device if needed. Because the seed phrase format is universal, the X Card is a practical upgrade path for users coming from brands like Ledger, Trezor, SafePal, Keystone, or even older Ellipal devices.

If your current wallet uses a 12‑ or 24‑word BIP39 phrase, the X Card will fit into your setup cleanly.

You can assign different cards to different wallets, giving you clean separation without carrying multiple hardware devices. I have now synced 4 older (and bulkier) devices with Xcards, so the devices stay safe in my house and the cards travel with me (so I can react to market fluctuations as they happen).

App & Asset Management

The Ellipal App handles setup, syncing, and asset management. You use your existing wallet (MetaMask, Trust Wallet, etc.) as usual — swaps, approvals, dApps — and the X Card steps in only when a signature is required. The app supports a wide range of assets, including major coins, EVM chains, and popular tokens. The workflow stays familiar, with the X Card acting as the offline signing authority.

PROS

  • Physical approval required for every transaction
  • CC EAL6+ secure element
  • Fully air‑gapped (no WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, USB)
  • No charging, no cables, zero maintenance
  • Works with MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Titan 2.0, and more
  • Travel‑friendly, minimalist design
  • Supports multiple wallets and accounts
  • Simple onboarding and intuitive workflow

CONS

  • Requires one card per wallet/account
  • No screen (all management happens through the app)
  • Not ideal for users who prefer traditional hardware devices
  • Limited to Ellipal’s ecosystem for setup and syncing

Pricing

The X Card is priced competitively compared to traditional hardware wallets, especially considering its form factor and CC EAL6+ secure element. It’s also significantly more affordable than carrying multiple hardware devices for multiple accounts.
