Ok, so I’ve been in crypto long enough to care about security first, and I only talk about wallets if they actually make sense from a self-custody perspective. If you’re new to my channel, hello! Thanks for tuning in. I’ve been talking about cold wallets for 10 years at this point, so I’ve been using these gadgets for a while.
I’m familiar with the Xcard wallet since its early testing stages, and this is the final product, so I’m happy to give it a test run with you here. Let’s break it down properly.
First, a few key things to know about this device:
🔍 What Is the Ellipal Xcard?

At its core, the Ellipal Xcard is a hardware wallet, but the form factor is what immediately stands out.
Instead of a bulky device, this is a card-style cold wallet, roughly the size of a credit card.
Slim, discreet, and honestly… something you could carry without drawing any attention.
And that’s important, because in crypto, visibility is a risk.
🔐 Security Model – This Is the Key Part
Now let’s talk about the most important thing: security.
The Ellipal Xcard is:
- Air-gapped
- No Bluetooth
- No Wi-Fi
- No USB data connection
That alone already puts it in a different category than many wallets on the market.
There’s zero direct connection between this wallet and the internet.
Transactions are signed via NFC through the Ellipal mobile app. Just tap the card and that’s it.
This means:
- No remote hacking
- No malware via USB
- No Bluetooth exploits
- No firmware attacks through live connections
From a threat-model perspective, this is exactly how cold storage should work.

🧠 Secure Element & Protection
Inside the card, you’ve got a secure element chip, which is designed to protect:
- Your private keys
- Your signing environment
- Your recovery credentials
Even if someone physically gets their hands on the card, extracting keys is extremely difficult.
And that’s a big deal, especially if you’re holding:
- Long-term positions
- Cold storage funds
- Or funds you don’t touch daily
NB: Use my discount code: CRYPTOCORNER for any Ellipal product and you can go directly to their website or via this invite link. and just apply the code at checkout.

📲 User Experience & App Integration
Now, obviously, a wallet can be ultra-secure but still be a pain to use.
This is where Ellipal actually does a decent job. You pair the Xcard with the Ellipal mobile app, and you navigate from there. You can keep track of your balance, get your address for receiving coins – no need to use the card for these. With the card you will approve transactions, whether you’re sending, or buying/selling crypto, staking too. You can do all of this inside the app.
The interface is clean, beginner-friendly, but still solid enough for experienced users. You’re not digging through complicated menus just to send a transaction.
🪙 Asset Support
The Xcard supports:
- Bitcoin
- Ethereum
- Major Layer 1s
- ERC-20 & BEP-20 tokens
- And a wide range of altcoins
So this isn’t just a Bitcoin-only storage card — it’s built for multi-asset holders, which realistically is most of us.
💳 Design & Portability
One thing I actually like — and this surprised me — is how low-profile it is.
No screen sticking out.
No obvious “crypto device” look.
No buttons to fumble with.
It’s minimal, discreet, and very intentional. If you travel, or if you simply don’t want your wallet screaming “I hold crypto”, this design makes sense.
⚖️ Who Is This Wallet For?
Now, let’s be honest — this isn’t necessarily meant to replace your daily hot wallet.
This makes the most sense if:
- You care about cold storage
- You want maximum isolation
- You’re holding funds long-term
- You don’t want wireless attack surfaces
If you’re actively trading every day, this might be overkill.
But if security is your priority — this is exactly the kind of setup you want.
Just a reminder, you can use my discount code: CRYPTOCORNER for any Ellipal product and you can go directly to their website or via this invite link. and just apply the code at checkout. Right now it’s an extra discount that makes the 3-cards bundle unbeatable value.

🧩 Final Thoughts – Honest Take
I’ve seen a lot of wallets over the years.
Some are convenient, some are secure, and very few balance both properly.
The Ellipal Xcard leans hard into security, and that’s a good thing.
No forced hype here — just a solid, air-gapped, card-style cold wallet that does what it’s supposed to do: Keep your keys offline and under your control.
I’ll continue testing it over time, but as a first impression, this is a serious self-custody option. If you care about holding your crypto the right way — it’s definitely worth looking into.
