Here is a super-secure, air-gapped and metal encased cold wallet that I’m using for over a year now and I decided to do an updated review. This is the mighty Ellipal Titan 2.0

This new device is one of the most secure hardware wallets, designed to store and manage cryptocurrencies and NFTs. It is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Ellipal Titan, and boasts several new features that make it stand out from other hardware wallets in the market.

Design and Build

The Ellipal Titan 2.0 is a really sturdy hardware wallet with metal casing, providing protection against physical and supply chain attacks. The wallet is designed to be anti-tamper and anti-disassembly, making it impossible to break open the wallet without leaving any lasting damage. The device is also air-gapped, meaning it is always 100% isolated from the internet and fully protected from unauthorized access, cyber hacks, malware, and any online threats. The wallet has a 4-inch large touch screen for all operations at a glance, making it easy to use. It’s very much the size of a mobile phone and fits perfectly in my hand, so transacting is really easy with it. The device is not super-lightweight, it’s 120g, so not too light but also, not heavy at all. With such a large screen, it is very user-friendly for sure. There’s also a 5M AF camera that can scan QR codes for approving transactions – this is necessary because there’s not usb or bluetooth connectivity, so in order to transmit data from the device and via the mobile phone app that the device uses, this is done via QR codes. You want to send any crypto from that wallet – you will get a QR code that you scan and this is how you handle outputs here. You don’t need to do this to receive crypto, only when you are sending it out of the wallet. The QR code mechanism is for extra security, which leads me to the next point:

Security

As all Ellipal products, the Titan 2.0 is designed for security first and foremost. The wallet is fully air-gapped, meaning it is always offline and never connected to the internet, making it impossible for hackers to access the wallet remotely. The device is also anti-tamper and anti-disassembly, making it impossible to break open the wallet without leaving any lasting damage. The anti-manipulation feature also deletes all keys as soon as a break-in is detected, protecting the wallet from physical attacks and hacks. It’s a self-destruct mechanism that you may be familiar with from other brands like Keystone – the other airgapped device that I use.

The secure element is CC EAL5+ and it’s a tamper-resistant chip that stores private keys and performs cryptographic operations. It is designed to protect against physical attacks and hacks.

Compatibility

The Ellipal Titan 2.0 supports over 10,000 coins and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum (and all ERC-20), XRP, and more. The wallet also supports NFTs and can manage multiple accounts with unlimited storage space.

Ease of Use

It has a user-friendly interface and a large touch screen for all operations at a glance. The device is also lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry around. The wallet can be set up in just 5 minutes and can be updated in just 3 minutes. Now, having to operate via QR codes may not the most traditional way, it will be a bit foreign to many new users, but it is really quick and simple, since you don’t have to enter complicated strings of numbers and letters or anything at all, you just point the camera, scan the QR code and hit approve. It’s simple really.

On top of that, they offer Worry-Free Returns. With this new model, customers are allowed to send back the item within 30 days of delivery. Ellipal inspects and fixes products free within 12 months, and destroys all returns, even if unused, to ensure that only brand new devices are sent out to guarantee security.

I also want to point out that I am using the Titan Mini – another awesome product by Ellipal and I did a comprehensive review of that too, should you want to check it out.

Price

The Ellipal Titan 2.0 is available for purchase directly from the manufacturer for $169.00, with free shipping worldwide. This is in fact a really good price for the category that it fits. It’s actually cheaper than the competition, such devices go around $189-$220 usually. And you can get it even cheaper in the first month of its release (29 days as of time of writing this).

You can get this (and any other Ellipal products) with a discount from this link with my code: CRYPTOCORNER (apply at checkout).

You can also add the “Seed Steel” (a metal  plate to securely store your seed phrase). I use it myself and I always advise everyone not to ignore the importance of the seed. If you lose it, you can lose access to all your crypto. Or, if you don’t protect it well, it can get damaged by fire, water, or worse case scenario – get in the hands of someone else and then, your crypto is gone.
Always protect your seed phrase better than the wallet itself. This is why I use metal plates for all my seed phrases and I have a lot of them, trust me.

I dedicated another article to these, you can check it out here. When buying the Titan 2.0, you can add the “Seed Steel” at the check out with this invite link. This way you’ll have it ready when you’re setting up the device and you won’t forget. It’s really important.

What’s In The Box?

The device comes with a USB C cable for charging – this is not for connecting to a computer or phone, but strictly for charging the battery and there’s a micro SD card too – this is needed for firmware updates. Occasionally Ellipal would release an upgrade to the firmware to allow for new features to be added and the way it works is, you download the upgrade to the SD card, then insert the card into an adaptor (provided), which you plug into the device, and then you can upgrade the firmware. This also works as a battery pack, since it can be connected to the USB cable. The device itself does not have any USB ports (which is the best thing about it.)

There are two paper cards for seed phrase storage that come in the box, but as I said, metal plates are the only safe solution – safe from fire, safe from water and dust too. And there’s a screen protector too, much like with any mobile phone with such a large screen – I haven’t yet used this one, I just got the device a few days ago, it’s brand new.

You can get this (and any other Ellipal products) with a discount from this link with my code: CRYPTOCORNER (apply at checkout).

So, in conclusion, The Ellipal Titan 2.0 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Ellipal Titan, and boasts several new features that make it stand out from other hardware wallets in the market. The wallet is designed with security in mind, with features such as air-gapping, anti-tamper, and anti-disassembly

They added CC EAL 5+ Security Chip for enhanced dual-layer protection. Upgraded to a Full HD IPS Screen giving it a more vibrant display for better viewing experience, especially with those NFT collectibles you might store there. System Optimization offers improved responsiveness for a smoother user interaction; a faster upgrade process: What used to take 20 minutes now only needs 2, thanks to the enhanced speed. Added support for 24-word Seed Phrase generation: something I really like as I’m not a fan of 12-word seeds.

This device supports over 10,000 coins, tokens and NFTs, and can manage multiple accounts with unlimited storage space. When I posted my Titan mini review a few months ago, someone asked if the device has enough capacity for several different blockchains, because their Ledger keeps running out of space. This is really just an issue of Ledger. Ellipal is designed differently and there is not apps that you need to download on the device, so it never runs out of space. Ellipal also offers worry-free returns, allowing customers to send back any item within 30 days of delivery. And for the first month, you can get it with $20 discount, so you’ll pay $149 instead of $169 – that is, if you catch this article as soon as I post it – but even at full price, this is a great value when compared to other devices in the same category.

Overall, this is a great choice for anyone looking for a secure and easy-to-use hardware wallet to store and manage their cryptocurrencies and NFTs. For me this will be a long-term storage, meaning, I will not be using it for day to day transacting, I have smaller and lighter devices for that. Since it is not too light, I’d rather keep it in the house, but that’s me. You might not want to have several devices and just rely on one, which is perfectly fine.
