Today, I’m reviewing the Ellipal Titan Mini, a cold storage wallet for cryptocurrencies that is compact, yet doesn’t compromise on ease of use, with very large touch screen and air-gapped mechanics. I love it and have been using it for over 2 years already. Here’s my review for your consideration.
Ellipal is a hardware wallet manufacturer that offers several models. They’re all designed to provide the highest level of security for the storage and management of your private keys. And I’m saying private keys rather than cryptocurrencies, because that’s exactly what cold wallets do. They generate private keys and store these securely, offline, protecting them from hacks and other fraud. Your cryptocurrencies – coins or tokens exist on their relevant blockchain, so when you connect your wallet to the blockchain, your private key does the work to identify the exact amount that you own. It does that by scanning the data of that blockchain and taking into account the transactions that have occurred with that private key. So, in effect, it’s the private key that you have to protect and this is why we use cold wallets. The whole point of them is to make sure that the private key never leaves the device, cannot be extracted and that transactions cannot be approved without the device.
Most cold wallets have several layers of security and protection starting with what is called a mnemonic phraseor seed phrase, also known as a backup phrase. This is a sequence of 12, 28 or 24 words (in most cases), that is generated by random when you first set up your wallet and you can use this phrase when you want to migrate from one device to another if you need to. You can use this seed phrase even with a hot wallet, like Exodus, Metamask, Coinomi and others. That seed phrase is the most important piece of data that you need to protect so you don’t have to worry about your cold wallet.
With that in mind, it is no wonder that recently there was a major pushback from users of Ledger – the brand that has become a giant in the world of cold wallets. You see, Ledger decided that it would be a good idea to make it possible to extract that seed phrase for customers who might have lost theirs – they wanted to cater to the mass market and there are many people, who after a few years, cannot find their seed, so this was an attempt to resolve such issues. However, this was a controversial decision as it meant that you have to trust Ledger not to extract your seed without your permission and when it comes to crypto, “trust” is not something we want to risk. After all, crypto was created to be trustless.
So, Ledger is trying to please the newcomers in the crypto space, but is letting down their faithful userbase. As a result, most of us (OG users of cold wallets) turned to other brands in search of the perfect cold wallet solution. Perfect is not really the right term I guess, I mean, nothing is perfect really, but when it comes to cold wallets, Ellipal is pretty much up there.
I recently received my Titan Mini bundle – I ordered it with the steel plate for my seed phrase, which I will review in an upcoming post. But let’s move on to the top criteria I use for evaluating the Titan Mini Cold Wallet device.
Design & Build Quality
Let’s start with what sets this wallet apart?
It’s air-gapped.
This makes the wallet always 100% isolated from the internet, fully protected from unauthorised access, cyber hacks, malware, and any online threats.
If a hardware wallet can be fully air-gapped at all times, there is no way for hackers to reach the private keys inside, so that makes it ultra-secure. And this means complete lack of network connectivity. No USB. No Bluetooth. No Wi-Fi even. If you’re wondering how the hell is the device going to connect with the relevant blockchain where you hold your coins or how it will approve transactions, well, this is done via QR codes that you transmit between the device and the mobile app that you use on your phone to navigate everything.
The Titan Mini has a sleek and modern design with a fully metal-sealed body. It weighs just 120g and is very compact, which I like. It’s not the smallest device out there, but is small enough. It has a built-in camera that it needs to scan the QR codes – I’ll explain about that in a moment. It has a 2.4 inch LCD touch screen – it takes pretty much the whole surface, so navigation is easy. It has a built-in battery too, with an average standby time of 50 hours. There’s a cool magnetic cable adaptor too, so no ports in the device. Not one. That’s great.
The device is also IP65 rated, which means it’s protected against dust and water, making it extra-durable.
Security Features
The most important part of course is the security of this device and I already mentioned it is airgapped. It’s what made me get this device in the first place. In addition to that, this device, like all Ellipal wallets, uses a combination of hardware and software security features to protect the private keys from unauthorised access or tampering. Besides the tamper-evident, air-gapped case there’s also a secure boot process that ensures that only authorised firmware can be loaded onto the device. If you’re familiar with hardware wallets, you probably know that every now and then, these devices need to install upgrades to their firmware. This is how new features are being added, whether it’s support for new blockchains or other services, like DeFi interoperability, NFTs, Web3 etc.
The Ellipal Titan Mini has anti-tamper and anti-disassembly security features that help protect your crypto against any physical attacks such as evil maid attack and supply chain attack. It’s similar to Keystone’s self-destruct mechanism. Basically, the system will delete all data if it detects a breach. In fact, both the Ellipal Titan Mini and Ellipal Titan models have these self-destruct mechanics to help prevent any private keys being stolen.
I can hear you asking – what would happen to my crypto if my device is destroyed then? How will I access my coins?
The answer is simple: you just get another device – doesn’t matter if it’s the same brand or another, all you need is the seed phrase of your old wallet, so you can restore your accounts on another device. This is why I ordered the steel unit, so I can store my seed phrase securely and most of all in an indestructible way, resistant to weather damage, fire, dust, water etc.
The wallet uses a secure element (SE) microcontroller to store private keys, which provides a high level of protection against physical and software-based attacks. The SE is certified with the highest security standards: Common Criteria EAL6+ and FIPS 140-2 Level 3, which are widely recognized as the industry standards for hardware security.

Supported Crypto Assets Compatibility and User Experience
The next thing we need to consider when choosing the right wallet, is the coins or tokens that are supported. The Titan Mini manages NFTs and supports 52 blockchains and over 10,000 tokens, so this is more than you will need. All Ethereum-based ERC20 tokens, BNB tokens, Tron based tokens and all other major blockchains are supported – you can see the full list on the screen and it’s on their website – this list is constantly updated as it grows with time.
The device is easy to use and beginner-friendly, and the interface is clear and of high quality. There are some additional features that enhance the user experience. For example, you can create and manage multiple wallets, allowing you to store and manage different accounts within one device
In the box, we find the device, which has a metal casing, making it anti-tamper and secure. Any damage to the metal casing indicates potential compromise, so it’s important to ensure the device arrives in pristine condition. As you see, there’s just one button – to power up and a camera – for scanning the QR codes so it can communicate with the mobile app. This is the power socket, it uses a USB C cable with a cool magnetic tap adaptor, which you connect to this socket.
And then, there are two paper cards to write down your mnemonic phrase /seed phrase. I definitely recommend buying the steel unit for the seed phrase though – it’s indestructible, fire and water resistant, not like the paper cards that can easily get damaged, but if you want to get that later, you will use the paper cards to write the seed phrase. This is really important, don’t lose your seed please, you can recover the private keys with it even if the physical device is destroyed or damaged.
There’s a USB-C type cable and a little adaptor – a magnetic piece where you plug the cable and it attaches to the device when you need to charge it. As I said, there’s no USB port to plug the cable to the device, so the cable is not for transmitting data, but just charging. There’s also a microSD card port on that detachable piece, where you will plug a MicroSD card when you need to upgrade the firmware. This happens rarely, from my experience, no more than two-three times a year, maybe less.
When a firmware upgrade is released, you will be alerted about it in the app, you will download it to the SD card and connect this to the device. Then you go to Settings and select Update and the device will recognize it and start extracting the update file automatically, and you should wait until the extraction is finished before selecting “Start Update”. It is important to note that the SD card must be formatted to FAT32, and it should be emptied and have only one update file. If you right-click the card on your computer, you will see the “formatting” option and you will choose FAT32. It’s very simple. Also, it’s recommended to keep the device charging when you do that or if it’s fully charged, then fine, but if charging, plug the cable into a normal power socket instead of a laptop during the update process.
The setup process involves using a smartphone application in conjunction with the device. Transactions are authorized by signing them with your private key using QR codes. For example, if you want to send Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, you initiate the transaction on your smartphone and then use the Titan’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on the device, thereby authorizing the transaction.
Price and Value for Money
Before anything else, please note that you get a discount with my link and my code: CRYPTOCORNER (apply at checkout).
The Ellipal Titan Mini is currently priced at $79. This price point makes the Mini one of the most affordable hardware wallets on the market. Of course, pricing is subject to changes, so depending on when you’re watching this video, the price might differ, but I doubt that it will go up too much anyway. So all in all, it offers excellent value for money considering its features and capabilities. It is a highly secure hardware wallet that uses an air-gapped system, multi-layer security, biometric authentication, and anti-tamper protections for your private keys and crypto assets, so I definitely recommend it.
If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments section. My link to purchase this device or any of the other Ellipal products, is in the description below, so grab it from there. Please don’t risk buying this device from third parties, like Amazon or anything, there’s always a risk that someone might sell a device that has been setup already or even a fake one, that will leak your seed phrase – this happened with Ledger already – there were fakes on Amazon and people lost their crypto due to lack of understanding how these things work. Don’t risk it.
In Summary
So, to sum up all I like about this device: It’s an affordable and reliable hardware wallet that is designed to provide a high level of security for the storage and management of cryptocurrencies and private keys. The use of a secure element, tamper-evident case, and advanced encryption algorithms make it a reliable, durable and very secure device.
It’s best features are:
– Touchscreen display for easy operation
– Dual chip architecture for added security
– Military-grade security protocols
– Tough, durable, and water-resistant design
– Air-gapped functionality to prevent remote attacks
– Wide range of supported cryptocurrencies
– Easy backup and restoration process
– Comprehensive backup plan with SD card and 24-word seed phrase.
This wraps up my review of the Ellipal Titan Mini. It’s a wallet I proudly own and it’s a great addition to my hardware wallets collection, which is growing by the day. I want to spread my crypto across many devices for extra security, so that should anything happen, I don’t risk all my assets being in one place. Even though these are ultra-secure devices, what if someone gets hold of my seed phrase… right? If they steal any of me seed phrases, my crypto is gone. So, it’s best that I keep it stored in many devices, this way it’s less likely that they can steal everything because I don’t keep the backups in one place and that’s my way to protect myself. Make sure you do everything you can to protect yourself, and stay safe!
