As a long time user of cold wallets, I have tried and tested everything the market has to offer and over time I have some favourites. These days pretty much every device out there is of excellent quality, they all have great security features, coin support and ease of use, and mostly the choice comes to design, portability and ultimately, is the brand trustworthy. So today I’ve decided to talk about one of my favourite portable wallets – the OneKey Classic. It’s one of the cheaper gadgets in this sector and it’s also super light, thin, simple and perfect for on the go. I use it all the time, so let me give you my reasons why this is a great fit for you.

Before I start let me tell you, I have three OneKey devices (Classic, Touch and Pro models) and I use them all with the same account. The Classic is the one I take with me when I travel because it’s so lightweight. The OneKey Touch is also very compact, perfect for any DeFi operations and the Pro is by far the most sophisticated from their range, which is now my primary device when I’m at home. But whenever I travel, which is 9 months of the year, I carry the Classic with me mainly because it’s so compact, but also it’s cheaper (losing it won’t be a big deal) and it has all the functions I need, so no compromise on usability. Also, there are two Classic models: the newer, Classic 1S Pure does not use a battery, but is being powered via USB-C cable, and the older model 1S, which has its own battery and this is the device I’m using, so I will be referring to that, but both share the same functionality, the only difference is the battery.
So this is indeed the main advantage here:
Compact Design: Perfect for Travel
Believe me when I say, this thing is tiny. Like, really tiny. It’s one of the thinnest wallets I’ve seen. It’s only 20 grams. Paper-light really. It’s the same as this Crypto com card, if you have one of these, you’ll get the idea how light this is. And I’m referring to the battery model. The one without battery must be even lighter. You can toss in your pocket or even your wallet without feeling bulky or awkward. If you travel a lot or just want something discreet, it’s perfect. No flashy logos or anything that screams “I’m carrying crypto,” which is a nice bonus for security.
Which brings me to the next point:
Solid Security Without the Headache
Even though it’s on the cheaper side, it doesn’t skimp on security. It uses 2 secure chips* (SE and MCU) to keep your private keys locked down offline, and you get PIN protection plus passphrase options. You also have to physically confirm transactions on the device, so no sneaky hacks from afar. Plus, the firmware is open source, so the community can check it out and make sure it’s legit. This is often overlooked, but when it comes to security, open source is really important as it means that anyone can inspect and scrutinize the code, maybe find possible vulnerabilities and this way you get the trust and approval of the community. In fact, upon its first release, there was a vulnerability that was discovered through this very method. Two guys found a weak spot and alerted OneKey about it, so this was rectified and improved immediately. There have been no incidents as a result of this and so far OneKey has been climbing the ranks in the cold wallet niche smoothly. I’ve been using this device for 3 years now and I am very pleased with it.
*About the two chips: The MCU chip is mainly in charge of data communication, while the SE chip is mainly used for creating the Seed Phrase and Private Keys based on BIP-39 Standard, by a built-in RNG (Random Number Generator).

Easy to Use, No Complicated Setup
And speaking of user experience, the Classic keeps things simple. Very simple in fact. It has 4 buttons and they’re physical, it’s not touch-screen and this is good because sometimes, with the Trezor T model for instance I saw many comments from people complaining that the touch screen freezes, so I don’t mind me some physical buttons to be honest. The screen is small but clear enough to check your addresses and transactions, and the four-button setup is straightforward. Much more clear and simple to use than a Ledger Nano. I also own a couple of Nanos, but they’re not the easiest to use, so not ideal for frequent use, more suitable for long term hold without much transacting. This one is great for day to day use. You can choose between 12, 18, or 24-word seed phrases, so there’s some flexibility for how you want to back up your wallet.

Still not sure about it? Let’s continue:
Works With Tons of Coins and Apps
It supports more than 60 blockchains, so this includes thousands of tokens, which is pretty impressive for a wallet at this price. And there’s also support for DeFi and NFT transactions. Whether you’re holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, or a bunch of different tokens, it’s got you covered. Now, if you are going to hold some less popular tokens, you might want to check upfront if there’s support for these, so do check out the list of tokens and blockchains on their website first. I guess this is the next key factor that will determine if this is the right device for you. But frankly, nobody should be holding obscure, unpopular tokens for a long time. Maybe for a quick trade here and there, but cold storage? That’s never been a profitable strategy, for me at least. You know me, I only hold Bitcoin for the long term. But I digress. It also plays nicely with iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux-you name it. You can use it with the OneKey app or link it up with other popular wallets like MetaMask for even more options. You navigate via the mobile app and using Bluetooth connectivity. This makes it easy for daily operations.
Battery-Powered and Bluetooth Enabled
The device has a built-in rechargeable battery and Bluetooth, so you’re not always tethered to a USB cable. That’s a big plus if you want to manage your crypto on the go without fussing with cables. The model without a battery will obviously need a cable to power it, so this can be a factor in your decision making process.
How It Stacks Up Against Other Popular Wallets

If you’re wondering how it compares to big names like Ledger Nano X, Trezor Model T, or the D’Cent Biometric Wallet, here’s the gist:
- Ledger Nano X is a bit pricier, the screen is smaller and with just 2 buttons, it’s more comlex for navigation. It was my top choice back in 2019, but I use it only for long term storage.
- Trezor Model T has a touchscreen and some advanced backup options like Shamir Backup. It’s very user-friendly but costs much more and there have been many complaints about it that I’ve encountered on my videos. I use mine for long term storage too.
- D’Cent Biometric Wallet adds fingerprint security, which is cool if you want that extra layer of biometric protection, but it’s also more expensive, so again, price wise, value for money, this one’s a winner.

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a wallet that’s easy to carry around, keeps your crypto safe, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, the OneKey Classic is definitely worth a look. It’s perfect for travelers, beginners, or anyone who wants a simple, no-fuss cold wallet. Just don’t expect fancy touchscreens or ultra-advanced features-but honestly, sometimes simple is best.
As for the company, OneKey is based in Hong Kong and they were the first and only hardware wallet company that Coinbase invested in when the startup was launched a few years back. This was good enough for me to take OneKey seriously and here we are, 5 years on, they are bringing great products. You might want to check out my reviews on the OneKey Touch and Pro models.
